Update: Chris died a hero. He ran back inside repeatedly to save as many cats as he could until one time he never came back out. 😠It has been updated that at least 100 cats have died.
I just shared a post above from Jaeger’s Run Animal Rescue Inc. who is heading the recovery efforts of surviving cats. That post has more updated information and an interview about the current situation.
Chris…I am just deveststed by the horrific and tragic way you left this world…trying desperately to save the kitties. You are forever a hero to the cats you saved.

Happy Cat Sanctuary has experiencednced a devastating fire this morning that claimed the life of the founder Chris and at least 40 cats at this point. I’m sure that number will climb as they get the fire completely contained and sort through the wreckage. Rescuers and trappers are on the scene to recover any cats who may have survived, although I’m not sure how many will survive the smoke inhalation even if they escaped the fire. My heart is just in pieces over this today. RIP Chris. RIP to all of the cats who perished in this tremendously tragic fire. 💔ðŸ˜ðŸ’”
