Morris the Morrisons Cat

Morris was initially reported to a couple of cat charities last summer having been spotted hanging around Westcroft shopping centre.

The cat was well known by staff both at Morrisons and Jollyes and we made some enquiries at the local pub where we received confirmation that the scruffy black cat with a unique eye colouring was definitely their cat.

We thought nothing more of it until a few weeks back when Morris was spotted in the car park and we knew the pub had changed ownership.  Turns out the owners of the pub had moved and taken their black cat with them…..this was a case of mistaken identity.

A couple of attempts were made to capture Morris but the cat was having none of it and then one of our volunteers heard that someone had trapped Morris.  We were concerned as enquiries with both the RSPCA and Cats Protection in Milton Keynes led to knowing neither had Morris….so where was he and who had taken him.

We put an appeal out and heard several mixed messages about him being trapped but also that he was still around.  We knew the only thing we could do was put up some posters in the car park at Westcroft and hope that perhaps this weekend whilst fundraising we would spot him.

Well yesterday whilst setting up our fundraising stall outside Jollyes a concerned member of the public told us about a cat that looked rather unwell was sitting the car park.  Could this be Morris….though the lady was describing a young kitten we were doubtful it was him.

Much to our delight Morris was laying in the shade under someone’s car but was still refusing to co-operate even when there were 3 volunteers from MK Cat Rescue and 2 members of the public trying to catch him.

We took the decision to set a humane trap and it was checked throughout the night and first thing this morning.  Whilst setting up the stall outside Jollyes this morning we checked the trap again and it had been set off.

We were delighted to see Morris inside. We’d only checked the trap 10 minutes before!

Morris will be given some time to settle but we’re just so pleased that Morris is safe and the residents of Westcroft can be assured that we will make sure he is safe and no more dodgy cars in the car park Morris!

Photo Bombed!

We’ve been photo bombed can you spot the intruder?
On a serious note we’re really excited that our first set of cat pens have arrived! The pens basically mean we can help more cats in the community.
Pens need a few more additions before ready to be used but aren’t they handsome 🙂

You Little Gem

We’re delighted that Yvonne has offered to donate £1 for each pair of her lovely cat ear-rings that she sells. Yvonne can be found via YvonnesGemstoneJewellery on facebook and please quote MKcat when ordering !

You get a lovely pair of ear-rings and help raise money for MK Cat Rescue 🙂

17 Year Cat Reunited With Owner!

Congratulations to Angela one of our volunteers who this morning helped reunite Pepsi with her owner. Pepsi is coming up to 17 years of age and has been missing well over a month.

Her owners were absolutely delighted to receive the news that she had been found…..chipped to Great Holm, found in Leadenhall smile emoticon Oh the power of a microchip !

Fundraising update

We were delighted to be part of The Barns Hotel fundraising event last weekend raising money for Sue Ryder St Johns Hospice, they raised a staggering £1400.00!

This weekend we’ve attended the Love Bletchley all day event held in the High Street in Bletchley.

The guys have done an amazing job today raising money at the Love Bletchley event, big thank you to Stewart, Annie, Carole and Emmie for making it such a big success. We’ve raised £139 which is just fantastic news. However……we now need to start our appeal for teddy bears. If you have any teddy bears that need a new home could you please consider donating them to us?

One Act Of Kindness

You guys are all familiar with Elsa’s story and how we struggled to get her to eat after her emergency c-section and septicaemia.

Well someone who helped us with getting Elsa to eat again was Riley and his owner Helen. Riley stopped eating last year, quite suddenly without explanation but after trying everything, Helen found some biscuits called Royal Canine Exigent, Savour Sensation.

Helen having read Elsa’s story emailed us and told us about Riley and these biscuits so we tried Elsa on them and with a little chicken Elsa started to eat again.

Riley has kindly donated a bag of the biscuits to MK Cat Rescue for Elsa. We thought it was only right that Riley’s owner Helen got to meet our darling little girl and we know that Carole was genuinely touched by Helen’s kindness.

We know how kind our friends are but when we’re entering the busiest and toughest time of the year for cat charities we wanted to share you the story of Riley and Helen. It lifts our spirits when people show so much love to the cats in our care and one act of kindness can go a long way.

We’re off this weekend attending two fundraising events where we are hoping to help raise lots of money for both MK Cat Rescue and other organisations helping those in need. Whatever your plans this weekend have a lovely weekend x

……exciting news

What’s that you say….a new charity has registered with the Charity Commission and their Registered Charity Number is 1166769.
Nearly a year on since we founded MK Cat Rescue this is a significant stage of our journey and it wouldn’t of happened without everyone who has supported us.
Thank you, you have all contributed to making MK Cat Rescue what it is today and our focus will always be the cats x
