ALFIE For some cats that arrive in our care sadly the outcome is not as we all wish for. Alfie had been living on the streets for around 10 years when we became aware of him. He must of been someones loved kitten at sometime and then for whatever reason he ended up on his own, unfortunately this is not uncommon in the rescue world. Alfie was clearly not well, he was quickly diagnosed with FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) this is a viral infection that commonly effects stray cats. It causes cats to have a weakened immune system, cats are likely to have a chronic respiratory innfections, suffer skin and mouth problems and be more likely to develope certain kinds of tumours. With cats that are going to need long term care or care until end of life we have a small dedicated team of very special fosterers who know that the outcome is bleak but take on these cats offering them love, safety and care until the end. Just recently Alfies body began to shut down, he lost control of his bowels, he developed anemia and it was discovered he had growths on his liver. Alfie had 11 lovely months with Maddie his amazing fosterer but yesterday it was his time and the decision was sadly made to let him go. He spent his last few months safe, warm and much loved.
